Big Walk Join Code Not Working? Crossplay & Connection Fixes
Use this official-source checklist when a Big Walk Join Code fails, a friend session is missing, or crossplay will not connect.
If a Big Walk Join Code is not working, first make sure the host has already started the session and their character is fully loaded into the world. Then confirm you are using the code for the host's current session, check that both games have compatible version numbers, verify internet access and the system clock on every device, and fully restart Big Walk before trying again. The host can see the Join Code in the host menu before the game starts, or in Session Details after the session is running. Big Walk supports crossplay, so a Join Code can be used when players are on different supported systems.
Fast Fix Checklist
Work through these checks in order:
- Wait for the host to enter the world. The official troubleshooting page says the host should have a game up and running with their character loaded before another player tries to join.
- Get the current Join Code. Big Walk generates a short, unique code each time the host starts a session. A code from an earlier session should not be treated as the current code.
- Check the host menu or Session Details. Before starting, the code appears in the host menu. After starting, the host can open the in-game menu and choose Session Details.
- Check game versions. Big Walk version numbers use three components, such as
1.2.3. The first two components need to match between players; the third can be different. - Check every player's connection. Make sure all devices have a working internet connection and watch for connection warnings on the host's screen.
- Check the system clock. An inaccurate device clock can prevent hosting or joining. Big Walk specifically calls this out in its official troubleshooting guidance.
- Fully restart the game. If the connection still fails, close Big Walk completely on both the host and joining players, reopen it, and try again.
Where to Find the Big Walk Join Code
A Join Code is not a permanent code for your group. It is created for the current host session.
- Before the host starts: look in the corner of the host menu.
- After the game starts: open the in-game menu and select Session Details.
If you are streaming, do not leave the Join Code or session password visible on screen. Anyone who knows the code can attempt to join, and the official FAQ recommends using a password when you want tighter control over the session.
My Friend's Game Does Not Appear in the List
If the host is on your platform friends list, their active host game should normally appear in the friends-games menu. If it does not, Big Walk's official FAQ recommends using the Join Code instead.
There is one useful platform-specific note: the Mac App Store version does not support Game Center for the friends-game list, so Join Codes are the normal way to connect there.
Does a Join Code Work for Crossplay?
Yes. Big Walk officially supports crossplay across its supported systems. That means the problem is not automatically caused by one player being on a different platform.
When cross-platform joining fails, use the same troubleshooting order: current session code, compatible game versions, host fully loaded, internet connection, accurate system clock, then a full restart.
Version Mismatch: What Actually Has to Match?
You do not need all three version-number components to be identical.
For a version such as 1.4.8:
1.4.xcan play with another1.4.xbuild according to the official FAQ.- A mismatch in the first or second component can block compatibility.
If one player has not updated recently, update the game before spending time on network troubleshooting.
Why the System Clock Matters
This is easy to overlook. Big Walk's official support page says a device clock that differs significantly from the online clock can stop that device from hosting or joining.
If you have already restarted the game and the Join Code still fails, set the operating system's date and time to synchronize automatically, then reopen Big Walk.
Frequently asked questions
Does Big Walk generate a new Join Code every time?
Yes. The official FAQ says a new short, unique Join Code is generated every time the host starts a session.
Can I use a Join Code if we are already platform friends?
Yes. A friends-list session is convenient, but the Join Code is an alternative way to join.
Can PC, PS5, Mac, and Nintendo Switch 2 players play together?
Big Walk supports crossplay across its supported systems.
Why can I see the session but still fail to connect?
Check that the host is fully loaded into the world, the first two version-number components match, every device is online, and all system clocks are accurate. Then fully restart the game.
Is this guide based on hands-on testing?
