How to Fish Boss Order: Main Island Progression

The current full walkthrough supports this main progression: Spider Crab, Giant Piranha, Pufferfish, the major bird encounter on the fourth island, and Bowhead Whale with its final mutated phase on the volcano island. Optional or lure-summoned minibosses can add encounters without changing the main island route.

1. Spider Crab

Buy and upgrade the Knife, summon or start the encounter through the first-island quest, dodge the straight charge, and punish the stun. Returning the remains grants the boat key and completes the first major progression gate.

2. Giant Piranha

On the second island, collect the required Leeches, trade them for Leech Bait, and prepare an upgraded shotgun or another strong gun. The boss can spawn smaller piranhas, so keep room to kite and use area damage when the adds become the larger threat. Returning the skeleton updates the radar for the next island.

3. Pufferfish

The Pufferfish follows the Giant Piranha in current walkthroughs. Obtain the Carrot bait through the local quest and bring a fully upgraded SMG. Strafe in broad circles; the expanded phase adds lingering poison clouds, so preserve clean ground rather than circling through your own hazard trail.

4. Fourth-island bird encounter

The fourth island shifts more value toward precision shooting. Upgrade the Sniper Rifle before the major aerial fight, keep track of ammunition, and avoid entering with an island-three loadout that has no reliable long-range option.

5. Bowhead Whale and mutated phase

The volcano island is the endgame gear check. Current walkthrough guidance recommends an upgraded Assault Rifle, with the Sniper Rifle and dynamite as useful support. Watch for the aerial belly-flop attack, which can remove most of a health bar. The apparent victory is not necessarily the end: be ready for the mutated follow-up.

Optional bosses and minibosses

Boss lures can summon dangerous creatures outside the main five-step route. Treat these as farming or challenge encounters unless an NPC quest specifically uses them to unlock the next island. The article should be updated when patches add or reposition bosses.
